Below is general information about the conditions of employment in the Czech Republic.

According to the Czech Labour Code, an expat needs to obtain a work permit in order to work in the country, unless he/she is exempted from the obligation. The work permit stands for a special authorization for foreigners who want to work in the Czech Republic. Without this permission and without a valid visa for the purpose of employment, it is illegal to work in Czech Republic.

The new law of 2022 granting a work visa to foreigners is carried out through the labor exchange by a Czech company, which has the right to accept foreign specialists. The process of obtaining a work visa is affected by the reliability of the documents provided and the absence of a criminal record for intentional crimes.

When a company is selected and agreed with the applicant, all legal steps for issuing a work visa will be carried out.

Foreigners are issued a labor card, a blue card or a special work visa («povolení k zaměstnání»).

The foreigner must provide a certificate of education or qualification, confirming such qualification. This certificate must be legalized in the Czech Republic; it means it must be officially accepted by the Czech Ministry of Education.

Where to get a work permit

The official authority to file an application for the work permit is the Labour Office of the Czech Republic (“Úřad práce České republiky”) having offices in every city of the country. Our company, under an agreement with the applicant, carries out all the necessary actions and registrations at the labor office.

After filing in the work permit application, the administrative fee 1000 CZK needs to be paid. The issued work permit cannot be transferred to anyone else. The permit is issued for a fixed period of time (maximum 2 years, renewable) and is only valid for a specific employer. The work permit process can take up to 4 months. It is a common practice that a work permit is combined with a residence card.

For those who want to study in the Czech Republic and get a technical specialty with subsequent employment, the company provides services for obtaining a visa for study.
